What Is Ezoic and How Can It Help Me?
Simply put, Ezoic is an end-to-end user platform that allows publishers, bloggers, and website owners a complete suite of tools to monetize and improve their site.
Ezoic uses machine learning technology and AI tools to optimize ad placement, networks, ad types, and ad sizes. All this increases site revenue and enhances the user experience.
One powerful tool that Ezoic offers is Ezoic’s Ad Tester.
Ad Tester allows websites to use proprietary machine learning to determine which ad partners, ad locations, ad densities, and ad types perform the best on their website.
You have complete control over any experiments by choosing options to test.
You can set goals:
- Maximizing revenue
- Improving user engagement
Thanks to Ezoic’s full range of tools, you are in the driver’s seat when it comes to experimentation to see what works (and, more importantly, what doesn’t).
Publishers can even perform split tests to see how Ezoic is doing against other ad platforms like Google Adsense or Media.net.
Ezoic believes in valuing publishers and their websites. To show their support of publishers and their goals, they have made most of Ezoic’s services completely free!
I know what you’re thinking… what’s the catch?
There isn’t one.
Here is how Ezoic’s pricing model works:
After the 30-day free trial (where you keep 100% of your earnings), Ezoic takes the revenue from one ad at the bottom of your page. That’s it!
Ezoic believes so much in their product, they let it do the talking for them.
Since publishers make anywhere from 50% to 300% more earnings with Ezoic (even after Ezoic keeps the revenue from a single ad), Ezoic essentially pays for itself.
With our “ad generated” pricing model, publishers don’t have to worry about:
- Out of pocket expenses
- Contracts
- Tie-ins of any kind
Publishers are free to come and go as they please. Ezoic believes publishers will be so happy with the service that we’ve put our money where our mouth is and handled all the service’s upfront costs.
It’s a win-win.
For publishers who would like to opt-out of the “ad generated” model, Ezoic offers a subscription plan based on the amount of income a publisher makes each month with the service.
You can find out more about the pricing of those services here.
A Case Study
According to a year-long case study of 300 websites, Ezoic demolishes the competition compared to other ad platforms.
This case study ran from the start of 2019 through January 2020.
The study looked at four parameters of website statistics:
- Average revenue per session
- Average monthly traffic
- Total monthly revenue
- Average time on site
The study represented websites of different sizes, different verticals, and from different countries all around the world.
The study’s initial goal was to see how Ezoic performed against other ad platforms like Google Adsense to see if it improved ad revenue over one year.
The results…
A resounding YES!
Reports from the year-long study concluded that:
- Average Revenue Per Session increased by 87%
- Average Monthly Traffic increased by 36%
- Total Monthly Revenue increased by 93%
- Average Time on Site increased by 21%
At first, I was skeptical. Then I looked at the numbers.
Certainly, if these 300 sites could increase their traffic, engagement, and revenue with Ezoic, so could you & me.
What Makes Ezoic Unique Are Its Features
If you hawk your display ads revenue each week, hoping for a spike in revenue, you’re not alone.
I’ve been there too.
That was before I dove into the deep end of the pool and truly learned the power of analytics—that’s all thanks to Ezoic’s core features.
Big Data Analytics
- Do you wish you had a tool that could help you understand your user’s behavior on your site?
- Have you ever wondered if your SEO is actually working?
- How about, if content engagement actually affects your ad revenue?
If so…welcome to Big Data Analytics.
Publishers can use data-driven decisions to scale their traffic, revenue, and growth.
Here are real-life examples of normal people like you and me who used Big Data Analytics to totally transform their business.
1.How One Publisher Used Big Data Analytics to Track the Performance of Freelance Writers on Their Site
The site WrestlingRumors.net is a site geared toward the wrestling obsessed. They have a team of freelance writers who write 10-20 articles each day.
Thanks to Big Data Analytics, they were able to create a custom Author Metrics report. This helped them see which authors were producing the most engagement on the site, what topics garnered interest, and more.
They took it a step further to track each author’s performance on the site. She used to pay writers based on their expertise and used a flat rate to pay freelancers.
With the help of data she collected, she was able to move to a data-driven split percentage. The generated report makes it easy for them to generate the weekly pay for each writer based on performance.
Also, if an older article generates interest, the author would be compensated. This increased more internal linking and upped the engagement and time spent on the site for readers.
Not only that, freelance writers now had more incentive to make engaging posts about popular topics that fans of the blog wanted to read. It was a win-win!
2.How Another Publisher Used Big Data Analytics and the Power of EPMV to Significantly Increase Revenue
Luisito started a small trivia blog in 2013 called FilipiKnow.net.
With a little traction from Facebook, it had a small following. Still, he lost interest in the content due to his passion for writing, and the site lost engagement.
After learning about SEO, he decided to pivot the site away from trivia.
Thanks to the power of Big Data Analytics, he was able to take his small site from small-time trivia to one of the Philippines’ largest How-To blogs on the web!
After understanding the power of Earnings Per Thousand Visitors (EPMV) he was to developed high-quality content that led to his top-performing blogs.
He drove traffic to the landing pages with the highest EPMV.
The result…
His two top-performing blogs reached #1 on Google in just a few months.
Here are some more statistics:
- In one year, the site increased revenue by 300%
- The number of people who stayed on the site longer than 10 seconds increased by 585%
- His monthly revenue soared to 651% more than before Ezoic

Some Drawbacks With Ezoic
So far, I’ve mentioned the numerous ways that Ezoic can be a savior for you.
Now, I’m going to share some of the drawbacks with Ezoic.
You Need to Be Accepted Into the Program
First…a question…
Got 10,000 visitors a month to your website?
If you answered no, you’ll have to wait until you reach that threshold to be accepted into the Ezoic program.
If you’re a new blogger, with a very small following, this is no Bueno.
However, if you have been blogging for a while and have built up an audience, perhaps this isn’t a roadblock for you.
It all just depends on your situation.
After you have been accepted, it’s easier to get other sites accepted.
For instance, after your first site has been accepted, you only need 5,000 monthly visitors on your site to get that site accepted.
Something to think about.
Another factor is where your traffic is coming from. For instance, if your traffic is coming from countries like India or Pakistan, even having 10,000 visitors a month may not be enough.
Transfer of DNS?
After you have been accepted into the program, Ezoic will often ask you to transfer your name server over to them.
This is just so they can use their whole host of software to test and place ads so that they can find the right configuration for each type of visitor.
However, you don’t have to do this. You can choose to use Google chrome extension and manually play with ad placement.
Using the Google chrome extension just makes it easier if you have any technical issues with your website. That way, you can handle them without having to go through Ezoic for this.
Doesn’t Report EPC/CPC Like Google Adsense
Unfortunately, Ezoic doesn’t report on earning per click and cost per click like Google Adsense.
This can be tricky because knowing if you’re profitable comes down to knowing your earnings per click is more than your cost per click.
While this isn’t a dealbreaker, it is something to consider.
Doesn’t Report Which Ad Is Doing Better
With all this testing, it would be good to have some reports that show which ads actually do better.
However, this is not a feature that Ezoic offers at this time. Perhaps later they will add this feature, but for right now, it’s not available.
Knowing which ad is doing better could help you double down on ads with a high return on investment, increasing your ad revenue, but without this, you’re left to guess.
Doesn’t Report Which Position Is doing Better
Again, Ezoic, with all of their testing, has skipped this part of their reporting. It is a bit ironic considering all the emphasis they put into testing placements of ads.
Nonetheless, this is not currently a feature.
Knowing what placement works best and what ad type works best could let you place the ad with the highest bid, highest return on investment, and in the best position for high ROI.
Alas, we’ll just have to wait for that feature to come along.
My Experience with Ezoic
I wanted to share a bit of my experience with Ezoic, so you know that I’m not just taking the best of the best statistics that Ezoic has to offer.
I also wanted to give you a glimpse into what the average joe’s backend looks like, and how it’s not much different from the case studies I’ve shown.
Here is what my earning per 1,000 visitors (EPMV) stands today from one of my niche websites:
As you can see, it has a good trajectory that is steadily going up. My belief is that this is because Ezoic has had a little time to adjust and tailor ads for my specific visitors.
Here is a look at my earnings graph over the time:
As you can see, the earning started going up steadily once I began with Ezoic and have steadily increased from there.
This mimics what I have shown you with other case studies.
Here is a graph from Ezoic showing the typical trajectory for the average user. You can see it looks pretty similar to my graphs from above.
Premium Plan Membership
Today, I was invited to the premium publisher’s plan. I opted to go with the No-contract $144/month plan.
I will try and write another post in another month or two to show the difference in revenue and if it’s worth it.
The premium plan does come with a 14-day trial period, so at the very least, you could try it out and see if it’s worth it for you.
The idea behind the Premium plan is that you pay a fee for better ads that have a proven track record of return on investment.
It basically is a pay to play deal.
Luckily, Ezoic tells you how much your new ads earned you, so you know if it’s worth it.
I’m looking forward to sharing my journey as I use the premium plan.
Final Thoughts On Ezoic
Just like with any program, Ezoic has it’s benefits, and it’s drawbacks.
I really like the opportunity to use Ezoic’s AI features to give each customer a unique visitor experience.
Ezoic definitely has some great tools to help you increase your ad revenue over time.
My graphs seem to be following the trend that I observed while researching the product, so that is a great sign for things to come.
Although it’s not ideal for new bloggers given that you need at least 10,000 visitors per month, this is not uncommon for these programs. Honestly, Ezoics is lower than most.
If you’re looking to add a shot in the arm of your ad revenue, and you have the following to apply, I highly suggest using a free option, and if it seems right for you, go for a paid plan.
You’ve seen the numbers. And numbers don’t lie.
